All right. Cerberus. Guards the gates of Hell.

I know that we have so little information that it's practically impossible to actually figure it out, but am I the only one who doesn't buy the 'accident' explanation for the Cerberus' destruction?

(There's also the fact that Gideon's interrogation about it bears some surreal parallels with Sheridan's interrogation of Morden about the Icarus, but I'm not sure that means anything.)

I really don't know what to say to this, but considering that the episode in which Gideon's interrogation takes place also contains footage from his POV of the weird Shadow-like ship firing on and destroying the Cerberus, I think it's pretty clear that it's not an accident.

Also, more info exists in the Technomage trilogy if you're interested.

(This comment contains buckets of spoilers for the unproduced scripts and the Techno-Mage trilogy.)

I do believe she meant "not an accident" in the sense that, sure, we know it was a Earth-Shadow-hybrid vessel that blew it up, and not a random explosion, but Earthforce is trying to say, "Oops, that was totally just, y'know. Random bad luck. I mean, yeah, sure, we made that ship, but it was just misfortune that it went nuts and killed your people. Sorry. ...want a job?"

In the very least, despite what Gideon probably believes at the moment, the Cerberus almost certainly had to have some involvement with that research base for it to have even been there--given that, as of the Techno-Mage trilogy, we know they weren't just randomly there, and in fact were there specifically to peek at that base, it seems pretty impossible the Cerberus just happened to be passing through. The question then becomes--what kind of involvement? Was it really just chance that right then their little prototype went nuts and blew that ship up--or was that hybrid deliberately unleashed on the Cerberus? And if so, why? Just how innocent of what was going on was everyone?
